The Slocan Lake Arts Council (SLAC) has presented live music, theatre, and poetry for over thirty-five years. Events are held at Knox Hall, the Silverton Gallery, and—when a larger venue is required—Memorial Hall in Silverton, which has a seating capacity of 200.
Performers regularly approach SLAC seeking opportunities to present their work. The Board carefully schedules events, taking into consideration other community activities to avoid audience saturation and scheduling conflicts. Talent is also sourced through President Martine denBok’s extensive professional network. In addition, SLAC’s long-standing relationship with the West Kootenay Regional Arts Council brings touring artists to the region, as grant recipients seek local venues in which to perform.
