Whether creating new songs with 17th-century lyrics, reinterpreting familiar carol melodies, or writing new winter-inspired songs, James Hill and Anne Janelle are building bridges between new and old. How do we reconcile ancient traditions with modern life? How do we honour the expression of yesterday while telling the stories of today? James and Anne's new winter-holiday album, The Midnight Clear, has one foot in the past and the other in the present. It's music that does what music does best: binding us to our traditions while guiding us ever-onward. 

Join James and Anne for an evening of re-imagined carols and original winter songs. The duo's award-winning blend of voices, percussion, ukulele and cello makes “the perfect evening of tunes, stories and musical virtuosity” (Wellington Dominion-Post). 

This concert is part of a nationwide tour to celebrate the release of The Midnight Clear. For this performance, James and Anne will be joined by the lush sounds of a string quartet of familiar Kootenay faces, including Jeff Faragher and Martine denBok.

Come join the book launch of visual artist and Kokanee Glacier hut keeper Petra Hekkenberg. Her new book titled "Further in the Alpine" is a continuation of her illustrated journal that you might already be familiar with, "In the Alpine" (2022). Enjoy another year of illustrations, stories and observations from her time working in Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park.

With an unwavering passion for music and a deep connection to their audience, Michael Huber and Nils Loewen gig together and separately, honing their skills, entertaining audiences and bringing people together through the universal language of song. Their warm spirit, talent, and dedication to their craft make them a pleasure to experience.

Throughout their careers, Michael and Nils have released multiple albums and played countless gigs. In 2018 they worked together on the EP Michael Huber - Wake Up. This recording was well received and led to Michael's full-length recording, Spirit Bear, combining poetic songwriting with a mesmerizing cast of BC's best musicians. Town Architecture from Kaslo, and the Slocan Lake Arts Council have been working hard on plans to improve the accessibility, energy efficiency and user experience of the Silverton Gallery (aka Slocan Lake Arts Centre). We are excited to present these conceptual plans to the public!

The Painting as Meditation workshop will take place at Kohan Reflection Garden as well as Nikkei Internment Memorial Centre (NIMC)—two Japanese Historic Sites in New Denver. The medium that Donna Hicks will use is watercolor.

Come join this unique dance exploration workshop in the scenic fields of the Harris Ranch—with dancer  Rachel Harris accompanied by Paul “Garbanzo” Gibbons playing the bamboo flutes. Rachel Harris will guide participants  in a dance exploration over her family’s ranch, combined with storytelling of the land and the role it played during the Internment of Japanese Canadians.

This Dance Exploration Workshop is one of three Nikkei Art Excursions offered to you by SLAC this Summer.

We are excited to finally be back in The Silverton Gallery for a reading of the book "They Called Him a Radical", written by local author Vera Maloff. This is a beautiful memoir of Pete Maloff, the author's Doukhobor Grandfather, and his adherence to the moral truth "thou shalt not kill".
